Technical Officer, Laboratory Sciences

About the role

The Technical Officer, Laboratory Sciences will join the EpiC Laos team to strengthen diagnostic services, specimen management and laboratory quality systems across national, provincial and district levels. The role supports timely detection, reporting and response to infectious disease threats in Laos.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance to improve laboratory services for prevention, detection and response to infectious disease threats.
• Support development and updating of national diagnostic network strategic plans, SOPs and policies.
• Update specimen referral pathways, collection and transport guidelines, and outbreak investigation procedures.
• Coordinate and deliver training on specimen handling, quality assurance, laboratory standards and result communication.
• Assist with laboratory quality management, accreditation, licensing and external quality assessment programs.
• Oversee maintenance of laboratory equipment and management of laboratory commodities.
• Conduct field visits for quality assurance, biosafety, biosecurity and supply‑chain training.
• Support training activities for diagnostic facilities and report on outcomes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in public health, medical laboratory sciences or a related field (or international equivalent).
• Minimum six years of relevant professional experience, including at least three years in global health security or infectious disease laboratory programs.
