Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Intern

About the role

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is seeking a motivated intern to support its Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice programme in Vientiane, Lao PDR. This six‑month, full‑time, unpaid position offers hands‑on experience in programme coordination, communication, and administrative support.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Programme Manager and the TOC Team in implementing and coordinating programme activities.
• Draft, edit, and review official correspondence, reports, briefing notes, presentations, meeting minutes, and other programme documents.
• Contribute to communication outputs such as success stories, newsletters, social‑media content, and programme summaries.
• Support liaison with national counterparts, government authorities, implementing partners, and civil‑society organisations.
• Help organise meetings, workshops, training sessions, field missions and other events, including logistical arrangements.
• Provide administrative support including document preparation, filing, record management, scheduling, and data compilation.
• Undertake any additional tasks assigned to support programme objectives.

Required profile

• High‑school diploma plus enrollment in or completion of a graduate programme, or final year of a bachelor’s degree.
• Fields of study such as Law, Political Science, International Relations, Criminology, Economics, Security and Development Studies or related disciplines.
• Strong interest in United Nations work and commitment to its Charter.
• Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Experience using online collaboration tools.
