Junior Social Consultant

About the role

AFRY Lao Sole Co., Ltd. is looking for a motivated Junior Social Consultant to join its Environmental & Social team in Vientiane. The role supports community development and social sustainability aspects of hydropower and infrastructure projects across Lao PDR and the wider Asia‑Pacific region.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in field visits and stakeholder consultations.
• Collect and organise social and economic data for project studies.
• Assess potential impacts of projects on local communities, livelihoods and vulnerable groups.
• Prepare reports, presentations and other project documents in English and Lao.
• Support land acquisition, compensation, resettlement and livelihood restoration programmes.
• Record, track and respond to community feedback and concerns.
• Provide Lao‑English translation and interpretation when required.
• Assist with project monitoring and reporting activities.
• Collaborate with environmental, engineering and social specialists to deliver high‑quality outputs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Anthropology, Geography, Environmental Management or a related field.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience is an advantage, but recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Strong interest in social sustainability, community engagement and development projects.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational and problem‑solving abilities.
• Proficient written and spoken English.
• Willingness to travel frequently to project sites across Lao PDR.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
