Legal Adviser

About the role

DFDL is seeking a motivated Lao‑qualified lawyer to join its Vientiane office as a Legal Adviser. You will work with a dynamic team of local and international advisers, handling a broad range of corporate and commercial matters.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day client matters, maintain communication and expectations.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, corporate agreements, legal opinions and transactional documents.
• Advise clients on Lao laws across corporate, commercial, energy, real estate, employment and regulatory compliance.
• Prepare and submit government applications for company establishment, licensing and foreign investment approvals.
• Conduct legal and regulatory due diligence and produce detailed reports.
• Supervise and mentor junior legal advisers and paralegals, providing peer reviews and feedback.
• Support partners in monitoring matter progress, budgets and timelines.
• Contribute to business development by attending client meetings, networking events and preparing fee proposals.
• Maintain accurate time records, assist with billing and participate in internal training programmes.

Required profile

• Law degree from a recognised Lao or international university.
• Minimum two years post‑qualification experience in a law firm, in‑house team or government role.
• Admission to the Lao Bar Association (or eligibility for admission).
• Strong knowledge of Lao corporate, commercial and investment regulations.
• Proven experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documents.
• Excellent written and spoken English and Lao; additional languages a plus.
• Strong research, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Commitment to client service, professional ethics and quality.
