Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Intern

About the role

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime is seeking a motivated intern to support its Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice programme in Vientiane. This unpaid, full‑time position offers hands‑on experience in programme coordination, documentation, and communication within an international UN environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Programme Manager and TOC Team in implementing and coordinating programme activities.
• Draft, edit, and review reports, briefing notes, presentations, meeting minutes and translate documents as needed.
• Produce communication materials such as success stories, newsletters, and social‑media content to raise programme visibility.
• Support logistics for meetings, workshops, trainings, field missions and other events.
• Provide administrative support including filing, record management, scheduling and data compilation.

Required profile

• High school diploma plus enrolment in or completion of a bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. programme (fields such as Law, Political Science, International Relations, Criminology, Economics, Security and Development Studies are preferred).
• Fluency in written and spoken English; Lao language proficiency is desirable.
• Demonstrated interest in UN work and ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Ability to design basic surveys, questionnaires and data‑collection tools.
• Experience drafting reports, briefing notes, presentations or newsletters.
