Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action Specialist

About the role

The Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action Specialist will drive the design and execution of climate‑focused strategies within our project in Cambodia. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, the specialist will ensure that environmental safeguards and green‑growth opportunities are integrated into all program activities, supporting vulnerable communities to build resilient livelihoods.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of environmental sustainability and climate action strategies for the project.
• Conduct and oversee environmental impact assessments, baseline studies and climate‑resilience research.
• Analyze data to identify improvement areas in livelihood programmes and market systems.
• Provide technical guidance on renewable energy, circular economy, regenerative agriculture and climate‑smart technologies.
• Support the Inclusive Market System Development (iMSD) by mainstreaming climate‑resilient practices and nature‑based solutions.
• Integrate environmental safeguards into private‑sector partnerships and monitor climate‑action outcomes.
• Facilitate workshops, develop training materials and mentor field teams, lead farmers and local partners on sustainability practices.
• Collaborate with GEDSI/Women’s Economic Empowerment specialists to promote holistic, gender‑responsive solutions.

Required profile

• Degree in environmental science, climate studies, agriculture, natural resources management or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in conducting environmental assessments and climate‑related research.
• Strong analytical skills with ability to translate data into actionable program recommendations.
• Experience working in development projects, preferably in Southeast Asia.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills for capacity‑building activities.

Required skills
