Junior Social Consultant (Environmental & Social)

About the role

AFRY Lao Sole is looking for a motivated Junior Social Consultant to join its Environmental & Social team in Vientiane. This entry‑level position offers the chance to work on hydropower and infrastructure projects across Lao PDR while gaining hands‑on experience in community development and social sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in field visits and stakeholder consultations.
• Collect and organise social and economic data for project studies.
• Support assessments of project impacts on local communities, livelihoods and vulnerable groups.
• Assist in preparing reports, presentations and other documents in English and Lao.
• Contribute to land acquisition, compensation, resettlement and livelihood restoration activities.
• Record, track and respond to community feedback and concerns.
• Provide Lao‑English translation and interpretation support when required.
• Support project monitoring and reporting in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Anthropology, Geography, Environmental Management or a related field.
• Strong interest in social sustainability, community engagement and development projects.
• Good communication, interpersonal and organisational abilities.
• Fluent written and spoken English; Lao language skills are a plus.
• Willingness to travel frequently across Lao PDR.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
