Underground Geotechnical Engineer

About the role

Phu Bia Mining Limited, a Lao-registered company 90 per cent owned by PanAust Limited, is recruiting an Underground Geotechnical Engineer for its BHX Underground operation. Reporting to the Senior Geotech Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and geotechnical governance to ensure safe and efficient mining operations aligned with geotechnical design and risk management requirements. The company offers a 9-day-on-site, 5-day-off schedule, with residential accommodation in Vientiane.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct routine underground inspections and audits
• Manage geotechnical risks including weak ground, groundwater and instability
• Ensure compliance with GCMP and geotechnical TARP's
• Carry out continuous data collection such as structural mapping, Q/RMR classification mapping, damage mapping and core logging
• Install, collect and analyse instrumentation data (extensometers, seismic system, LiDAR scanning, etc.)
• Run ground support QAQC including pull testing, fibrecrete early strength testing and support compliance checks
• Advise operations and planning teams on rehabilitation, development and stope designs, water management and ground support
• Mentor graduate geotechnical staff

Required profile

• Degree in Mining, Geotechnical or Civil Engineering
• 5+ years of underground mining experience
• Experience in hard rock stoping operations
• Strong influencing, consulting, mentoring, analytical and computer skills, with confidentiality and good work ethics
• Ability to work in a remote or isolated environment and lead when required
