Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Officer

About the role

ALS, a global provider of testing and analytical services, is looking for an Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (OHSE) Officer for its Vientiane office. The OHSE Officer protects workers and property by creating, implementing and monitoring safety policies at job sites or facilities, inspecting work areas, stopping unsafe acts, running safety training such as toolbox talks and investigating workplace accidents.

Key responsibilities

• Drive and develop a strong HSE, sustainability and compliance culture
• Ensure compliance with legal requirements, internal policies and global standards
• Implement and monitor HSE programs, processes and ways of working across sites and the region
• Carry out HSE inspections, observations and compliance checks at the main site and remote sample preparation laboratories
• Support interactions with authorities and be mobile, travelling to remote locations to follow up on HSE requirements
• Support QC preparation laboratory audits with the HSE/QC team when required
• Support HSE training, awareness, incident follow-up and other HSE activities
• Support daily HSE administration and corporate reporting, and help the HSE Manager with routine reporting so they can focus on corporate-level matters
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives

Required profile

• Degree or certification in Occupational Health, Safety and Environment or similar
• 1-2 years of experience in safety work; direct experience in the laboratory or mining industry is advantageous
• Ability to plan and drive work independently, and to communicate and collaborate across functions and levels
• Full proficiency in English, written and spoken, and willingness to travel to remote work locations
• Eligibility: citizen or permanent resident of the country of application, or able to obtain a valid working visa

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Word and Excel
• Analytical, solution-oriented and detail-oriented approach
