Senior Mining Engineer - Underground

About the role

Phu Bia Mining Limited, a Lao-registered company 90 per cent owned by PanAust Limited, is recruiting a Senior Mining Engineer for its Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver operation in Xaisomboun Province, Laos. Reporting to the Mine Superintendent, the role leads all technical underground mining engineering activities and acts as the primary technical authority for underground mine engineering. It covers mine planning, scheduling, stope and development design, ground support, ventilation, drill and blast, backfill, dewatering and geotechnical engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and maintain medium and short-term mine planning and scheduling, including level extraction plans, stope notes and 13-week rolling plans.
• Lead mine development and production design, overseeing implementation and signing off engineering deliverables.
• Represent mine engineering in the project management team and drive accountability across the engineering function.
• Direct drill and blast design and optimisation, including blast design, explosive selection, initiation sequencing, reconciliation and standards.
• Direct underground mine services infrastructure: power reticulation, compressed air, materials handling and logistics.
• Direct ventilation design, meeting standards for ventilation quantities, heat and particulate management.
• Direct dewatering and water management, including pump systems, sumps, pipelines and pressure management.
• Design and optimise stope extraction sequences, considering stope sizing, dilution control, ore recovery, pillar design and backfill plans.

Required profile

• Degree qualification in Mining Engineering or a related field.
• Extensive experience as a senior engineer on an underground base-metal mine.
• Proven experience in short- and medium-term mine planning for an underground operation is essential.
• Strong commitment to training and supporting Lao national employees.
• Unwavering safety focus.

Required skills

• Proficiency in mining software such as Deswik CAD, Deswik Sched, Deswik SO, MineSched and Surpac.
• Underground mine planning and scheduling.
