National Technical Specialist

About the role

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Lao PDR is seeking a National Technical Specialist to support the Global Environment Facility (GEF) FARM Programme. The role will contribute to the long‑term goal of reducing harmful agrochemicals and promoting environmentally sound management of pesticides and agricultural waste across the country.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement strategies to incentivize farmers to adopt sustainable crop‑management practices.
• Facilitate access to low‑ or non‑chemical pest‑control alternatives for smallholder farmers.
• Coordinate financing mechanisms for environmentally sound pesticide and waste management, including plastic waste.
• Provide technical advice and capacity‑building to government agencies, NGOs, and private‑sector partners.
• Monitor and evaluate the impact of interventions on agrochemical use and environmental outcomes.

Required profile

• Relevant academic background in agriculture, environmental science, or related fields.
• Proven experience in sustainable agriculture, integrated pest management, or pesticide regulation.
• Familiarity with development programmes and stakeholder coordination in Lao PDR or similar contexts.
