UN Resident Coordinator for Lao PDR

About the role

The United Nations Resident Coordinator for the Lao People's Democratic Republic is the highest‑ranking UN development representative in the country. Reporting directly to the Secretary‑General, the RC leads the UN Country Team and ensures coordinated implementation of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and the 2030 Agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the United Nations at the highest levels of state and foster engagement with government, civil society, bilateral and multilateral partners, academia, and the private sector.
• Lead the UN Country Team to coordinate operational development activities and system‑wide responses supporting Laos’ implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
• Ensure accountability for the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and report annually to the host government.
• Advocate for accelerated action on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promote inclusive, poverty‑eradication strategies.

Required profile

• Senior professional with extensive experience in United Nations development coordination.
• Proven ability to lead multi‑agency teams and represent the UN at senior governmental levels.
• Deep understanding of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, the 2030 Agenda, and international development norms.
• Strong diplomatic and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
